Topcon’s entry-level wireless excavator system is most advanced in its class

Topcon Positioning Systems has released the X-22, a 2D wireless indicate system for excavators, said to be the most advanced in its price bracket and which eliminates the need for cables, and can be quickly and easily transferred between multiple machines.
According to Garry Fleming, NSW General Manager with Topcon’s Australian distributor Position Partners, the X-22 has been specifically designed to be flexible, easy to use and operate, featuring an 8.9 inch bright, easy-to-read touch screen that offers multiple views, including plan, section and profile.
“No other system on the marketplace offers the combination of ease-of-use, flexibility, accuracy and reliability,” he said.
“The simplicity of the system, combined with Topcon’s highly visible colour touch screen, results in an extremely quick learning curve for any operator – making it ideal for all 2D applications.
“It’s a simple system that is easy to learn and easier to operate – and means any operator can dig faster, more safely and more accurately than ever before.”
The X-22 incorporates plug-and-play technology designed to make installation and swapping between machines very easy and fast.
It can handle presets for up to 20 different machines, each with 20 different buckets or attachments.
“This makes it ideal for swapping between multiple machines or even hire machines, giving the flexibility to handle a wide range of tasks on any job site,” Fleming said.
“Applications include site preparation, trenching, road building, shaping embankments, and digging basements.
“It can even be set up to work from any standard rotating laser if required – no matter what make – giving even more flexibility.”
Wireless sensors and long battery life ensure the X-22 is also very low maintenance.
“Having wireless sensors means Topcon has eliminated the chance of breaking cables, while the rechargeable sensors operate for four weeks off a single charge,” he said.
Other features include:
- Simple screen menu making it easy to set width, depth and slope of the cut.
- Multiple screen views, including profile, bucket and sectional.
- Self-checking calibration and audio height alert alarm, for increased reliability.
- Entire unit supplied in a single compact carry case, so it can easily be taken between jobs or machines, as well as being removed from a machine at night and taken home for greater security.
- Easily upgradeable to full excavator 3D machine control, allowing it to expand its capabilities along with an owner’s needs, and ensuring it won’t be outdated in a couple of years.
“The X-22 is a versatile excavator indicate system that will increase productivity on any job, no matter how big or small,” said Fleming.
“It has been specifically designed to dramatically reduce the incidence of over-excavating – which can really be a drag on contractors’ profits.
“With this system, an operator will get the job done faster, minimise the potential for re-work and reduce costs – adding to the bottom line,” he said.
