The Roading Company, specialist roading and civil construction company, was looking for an alternate machine scale for use at its new PowerScreen crushing plant. The PowerScreen crushing plant is currently contract crushing in Queenstown, Central Otago.

Nathan White, Crushing Manager (B Grade Quarry Manager certified) got in contact with Aptella to discuss machine scales and The Roading Company’s requirements. White was interested in working with machine scale providers that would offer premium service and support.

“Our Mobile Crushing Plant Operation complements our road construction operation, enabling the production and supply of various roading, drainage aggregate and sealing chip for our business and to the local market. We provide a range of high quality materials at competitive rates,” said White.

“Our plant is mobile which gives us the capability to produce aggregate throughout the regions.  We can operate crushing from a number of sites around Southland and Otago.”

Which loader scale was implemented by The Roading Company?

Aptella recommended the Loadmaster Alpha 100 Loader Scale and worked with White to implement the Loadmaster Alpha 100 Loader Scale onto The Roading Company’s new Doosan DL420 in Queenstown, New Zealand.

The Roading Company has been performing mobile crushing at this site for a quarry. White has found that the Loadmaster Alpha 100 Loader Scale has been implemented simply and easily and that all his operators have picked it up quickly.

“The New Doosan DL420 and the Alpha 100 Front End Loader Scale complement each other on this very busy site. The ability to easily save and maintain records of the many materials produced at the same time by the new crushing plant has made the Alpha 100 loader scale a welcome addition to the site,” said White.

Why the Loadmaster Alpha 100 Loader Scale?

While searching for a weighing system for The Roading Company’s new operation, White knew what he was and wasn’t looking for, and found that the Loadmaster Alpha 100 Loader Scale from Aptella was the best fit for The Roading Company’s operation.

“On a busy site, we needed the ability to quickly weigh products on to trucks, stockpiles and into the crushing plant without causing any hindrance or holding us back,” said White.

“RDS allows our machines to keep moving while showing constant real-time progress and without having to take your hand off the loaders controls.”

“Being adaptive to other technology, RDS will allow us to close circuit our operation, from positive adjustments to stock, forwarding information to our office, through to invoicing materials straight to our clients.”

Benefits of implementing the Loadmaster Alpha 100 Loader Scale from Aptella

The Loadmaster Alpha 100 loader scale from Aptella can help project managers overcome a broad range of challenges including: Load record keeping; ‘The Chain of Responsibility’ legislation; Underutilization of plant; Equipment matching for productivity.

“Cutting back on paperwork, has been a big time saver for our site staff, and the RDS Alpha 100 has played a big part in this,” said White.

The key benefits of the Loadmaster Alpha 100 Loader Scale are its ease of use and that it can be configured to be a basic scale or a fully featured load management recording tool.

“The Alpha 100’s extremely easy to navigate around, yet has very little limitations for our type of business,” said White.

“Allowing quick adding of products, continuous viewing of product information and control of summarised data at the end of the day, month or even the end of the year. A quick look up of historic materials produced. This makes it easy to download, back up and view information while in the field.”

“Through our busy construction season, our machines are extremely busy and the Alpha 100 accompanied to the Doosan DL420 requires trouble free running with very little maintenance required. They work very well together.”

The importance of service and support during purchasing and implementation

The service and support offered by Aptella was an important part of the decision-making process for White.

White was concerned that introducing new technology to The Roading Company’s quarry sector would be challenging but was pleased to find the back up and support from Aptella second to none.

“Their team is spread across the country and have been more than helpful when operators need any assistance,” White said.

“An easy setup, good induction and friendly staff have made it very easy to adapt to a new system and I look forward to using the RDS system we have installed.”
