At a technical level the system has been tested and proven over a decade of deployments in highly demanding environments, and prior to that 5 years of research at UCL, one of the world’s pre-eminent engineering universities. Our System Integration Layer consists of a lightweight operating system and modules that interface between the sensors, communication layers and processing systems on each node and then back through a gateway to our server and web interface.
The nodes themselves are micro-controller based, wireless mesh-networked based on IEEE 802.15.4 and form an integrated system that can monitor over a wide area, or any convoluted physical/geographical environment. Working as a self-configuring wireless mesh, data moves from neighbour to neighbour through the network. This provides an extremely robust and flexible solution adaptable to many various and challenging situations.
As a result of many years of development on sensor interface and wireless algorithms, battery life is unrivalled and should last between 12 to 15 years in typical situations of 15 minute to one hourly reporting.
Proprietary algorithms support functions such as clustering, data retrieval and policy distribution, self-diagnosis, dynamic algorithm management and security models. Nodes communicate with the gateway in order for data to exit the system. The gateway only needs to communicate with one node in order for the whole network to send data. This provides for highly flexible deployment configurations, particularly in comparison to hub and spoke wireless alternatives.
Senceive’s gateways come in a variety of options to ensure data is readily available even before the install team leaves site. The options vary from USB connection to a laptop or industrial PC, connectivity via a solar powered cellular gateway or to a wide choice of networks where some power is available and connections to other data bases, data loggers or industrial PCs are appropriate. The system is highly intelligent and enables us to interact with nodes and the gateway remotely; via the web it is possible to visualise and manage key elements within the network.
Data is transmitted to our user friendly WebMonitor software or can be sent to customer defined alternative software.

The Nano range has its own unique miniature form and is explicitly designed for Rail and Construction sectors to provide unbeatable tilt sensing. This easy to deploy tilt sensor node has no external aerial and a durable shell (IP68 rated) that can withstand the harshest environments.The Nano’s discreet form and wide range of simple fixings allow for extremely quick installation to any surface using glue, screw or magnetic mounting. It’s innovative design allows the Nano to be installed in any orientation and is ideal for tunnels, bridges, buildings and on retaining walls.
With reporting possible even down to every 2 seconds, the Nano has a resolution of 0.0001° (0.0018mm/m), and repeatability of ±0.0005° (±0.009mm/m). The Nano’s unrivalled specifications and a battery life of up to 5 years make it the true future of wireless tilt sensing.
The Nano range uses exactly the same core platform as our other products and has many of their Best in Class features and unrivalled functionality, all in a much smaller enclosure.
The Triaxial Tilt Sensor Node is an extremely high precision and exceptionally stable three axis tilt sensor. Variable reporting rates, a robust design and up to a 15 year battery life means this tilt sensor is well suited for all environments. The sensor nodes communicate reading through one of Senceive’s wireless communications networks (FlatMesh or GeoWAN) via a Gateway and on to our web based platform called WebMonitor where you are able to monitor your results.
The Crack Sensor Node interfaces to a linear displacement sensor. Its high precision sampling circuit powers the sensor and reports its measurements through Senceive’s wireless communications network to a Gateway
The Vibrating Wire Sensor interface range brings a wide variety of vibrating wire sensors into our systems. It is a highly integrated system which is capable of exciting and sampling vibrating wire sensors and reporting measurements through Senceive’s wireless communications network to a Gateway.
The Millivolt Sensor Node brings a wide variety of resistive bridge sensors into our system. It uses the integrated radio transceiver to report its measurements through Senceive’s wireless communications network to a Gateway
The PT100 RTD Sensor Node allows for precision temperature monitoring using a variety of sensors. It uses the integrated radio transceiver to report its measurements through Senceive’s wireless communications network to a Gateway.
The Optical Displacement Sensor Node is an instrument which uses optical means to take high precision displacement measurements and pass these through Senceive’s wireless communications network to a Gateway.
It can also be combined with Senceive’s world-leading triaxial tilt sensor to obtain high precision tilt measurements that are linked to an external reference.
The Tilt Beam is a lightweight, rigid aluminium beam that is used in conjunction with a Triaxial Tilt Node or a Nano Plus. The beam can be mounted in any orientation and rapidly deployed in single and daisy chained configurations.
Installation of the Tilt Beam can be performed with minimal tools in minutes. Complex bolting and washer arrangements are not required due to the beam’s inbuilt bearing and joint system. This allows for thermal expansion and misalignment of the support brackets while still accurately monitoring the structure. The attached tilt node does not require any levelling, further reducing onsite installation time.
The 3G Gateway is a fully integrated unit which provides all the functionality required to operate a FlatMesh wireless sensor network in a remote location.
No fixed IP address is required for the cellular service; the Gateway simply initiates the connection with the FlatMesh Web Monitor software over the Internet.
The FlatMesh USB Gateway provides all the functionality required to operate a FlatMesh wireless sensor network in conjunction with a PC.
Combine with the FlatMesh Data Logger software for simple text file logging, or the FlatMesh Web Monitor software for real-time visualisation and alerting.
The FlatMesh™ WebMonitor is an easy-to-use, web-based data access system which provides Senceive’s customers with a highly user friendly tool for the management of FlatMesh™ monitoring infrastructure that has been deployed in the field.
